Details have emerged of a new drama series focusing on UK Hip Hop, Grime and Drill.
Streaming to over 200 countries via Amazon Prime, Jungle will feature some of the best UK Hip Hop talent. The original series produced by Nothing Lost will air six 30-minute episodes concentrating on urban inner-city London. Following the lives of two strangers facing struggles, Jungle emphasizes the role of Hip Hop, Grime and Drill music.
Junior Okoli and Chas Appeti, founders of Nothing Lost, added: “We can’t wait. This one’s super special for us so we’re just really excited for you guys to see it and experience the world we’ve created in Jungle. It’s so unique. And the talent and creativity we’ve been allowed to source for this project have just been through the roof. This one’s going to be special. You’ll see.”
The announcement of Jungle airing on Amazon Prime comes as no surprise to music fans who’ve witnessed UK Hip Hop and Grime’s recent success. The genre has spawned the careers of many household names. Richard Kylea Cowie Jr. also known as ‘Wiley’, is a key figure in the creation of Grime music. In addition, Wiley holds the title of Godfather of Grime, for his musical achievements. Most notable artists who are without a doubt pioneers of Grime include Dizzee Rascal, Skepta and Stormzy.
Georgia Brown, director of European Amazon Originals for Prime Video, spoke about this opportunity to showcase UK Hip Hop. She said: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Nothing Lost on this brilliantly fresh and unique UK Amazon series. Jungle will shine a light on the amazing creativity of the UK’s Drill, Grime and Rap music scenes. Hopefully it will empower a varied collection of British storytellers to create captivating content which reflects the diversity of the UK today.”
As of September 2020, no announcement of any release date or confirmed cast.
