Tupac Shakur's Step-Father Has Life-threatening Bone Marrow Cancer

Tupac’s step-father, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, is facing life-threatening bone marrow cancer.


The announcement became public on Saturday December 14 as per the request of Mutulu Shakur. Dr. Shakur received the diagnosis of life-threatening bone marrow cancer back in October of 2019.

Dr. Shakur who is now 69 years old, had been experiencing pain in his bones, but it took a year for him to even receive an x-ray. Mutulu is also suffering from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, vision problems from glaucoma, and suffered a stroke in 2014.

After filing a compassionate release petition on December 5th the request was denied, even though he meet the conditions required under federal law.

A new petition will be filed with his original Judge Haight. The aim is to modify his sentence so he can be released immediately based on his current medical condition.
