Snoop Dogg Will Appear On New Tupac, Afeni Shakur Docuseries

Filming for the new Tupac and Afeni Shakur docuseries has continued, with Snoop Dogg now added to the list of those who will share their experiences and stories on “Outlaw: The Saga Of The Shakurs”.

Director Allen Hughes took to his official Twitter account sharing a photo of himself with Snooo Dogg on set of the new docuseries. Hughes quoted Snoop speaking about Tupac coming on to Death Row records. The Hip Hop veteran said, “We’ll show you how to Shine, and you’ll show us how to Grind.”

The five part docuseries will take a look at mother and son, told through the eyes of the people who knew them best. Allen Hughes and his brother have reunited after eleven years for the project. Allen Hughes has full access to Tupac’s released and unreleased material, writings, and poetry. All of which was granted by the Tupac Estate. As for Snoop, his relationship with Tupac started before Shakur joined Suge Knight’s Death Row records. The two artist first met at the Poetic Justice wrap up party. In attendance that night were the likes of John Singleton, Ice Cube, and Michael Rapaport.

A few years later the two became label mates, seemingly unstoppable, and recorded the hit single “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted” for Shakur’s All Eyez On Me album. Unfortunately the two had a fallout towards the end of Shakur’s life, stemming from an interview Angie Martinez conducted with Snoop on New York’s Hot 97. Snoop stated live on air that he had no issues with Biggie Smalls and Puff Daddy, claiming they were his homeboys. After becoming aware, Tupac did not want anything to do with the Dogg Father.

The series of events was all played out during the biopic All Eyez On Me. Including the infamous plane ride back home from New York on September 6th. Throughout the 5 and a half flight no one would speak to Snoop, nor was he allowed to have his security with him. Snoop ended up sitting back on a seat with a blanket covering half his face. Underneath the blanket he held a fork and a knife.

Once they landed, everyone went to their Rolls-Royce. It was then that Snoop asked Tupac if he was headed to Vegas to watch the Tyson fight. Tupac shaking his head wouldn’t say a word to Snoop. This would be the last time Snoop saw Tupac alive. (Also view: The Reason Why Tupac Was Mad At Snoop Dogg)

In 2017 the Tupac Estate selected Snoop Dogg to induct Shakur in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This would be the very first time a solo Hip Hop artist was inducted. Celebrating Shakur’s musical career, Snoop along with T.I., Treach of Naughty By Nature, and Alicia Keys all took the stage performing some of Tupac’s classics.
