Positives We Can Take From The Global Coronavirus Lockdown

Humanity is certainly going through testing times not experienced for many years. As a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, we are having to make painful sacrifices for the greater good.

Consequently, some of the sacrifices include not seeing family and loved ones. Others are school closures, cancellation of events and practicing social distancing. However, this is essential as the coronavirus death toll exceeds a staggering 200,000 globally. When you think about the lost souls and their families, it really does put things into perspective.

Furthermore, the coronavirus lockdown continues to negatively impact the economy. Many millions of people found themselves unemployed, facing financial uncertainty. Already we are seeing businesses, big and small, go into administration, becoming economic casualties. All of the uncertainty has lead to questions about how the world will look after we’re over the coronavirus pandemic. Will life be the same?

One thing that the coronavirus has done is bring back the sense of community spirit. We’ve witnessed countless acts of kindness, helping the elderly and vulnerable. From local businesses delivering food and essentials to the doorsteps of the vulnerable to key workers putting themselves at risk, the world has pulled together. When all this is over, hopefully, we can continue the kindness and generosity towards each other, making for a happier world to live in.

Inspirational Children Putting Smiles On Peoples Faces During Coronavirus Lockdown

Another positive outcome as a result of the lockdown is the fact that so many of us are spending quality time with our family. Witnessing parents homeschooling their children, planning lessons and fun, educational activities is great to see. A great example of this is 11-year-old Spencer from Warrington. He had help from his two siblings, 12-year-old Demi-Lea and 9-year-old Tristan, in making a rap and shooting a Hip Hop video for his music work. The rap, titled ‘What’s Happenin’ It’s Lockdown’, is educational, fun and certainly puts a much needed smile on people’s faces. Great job guys!

Finally, as we come through the coronavirus pandemic, we need to stay positive. Reading through the poetry book, ‘The Rose That Grew From Concrete‘ by Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur, I discovered a poem that certainly seems relevant given the situation. The poem titled, ‘And 2morrow’, speaks of overcoming anger and tragedy to keep dreams alive. I found Tupac’s words in this poem very inspiring, giving hope knowing that change is coming and what we’re going through is temporary.

The Rose That Grew From Concrete

And 2morrow

Today is filled with anger
fueled with hidden hate
scared of being outcast
afraid of common fate

Today is built on tragedies
which no one wants 2 face
nightmares 2 humanities
and morally disgraced

Tonight is filled with rage
violence in the air
children bred with ruthlessness
because no one at home cares

Tonight I lay my head down
but the pressure never stops
knawing at my sanity
content when I am dropped

But 2morrow I c change
a chance 2 build a new
Built on spirit intent of Heart
and ideals
based on truth

and tomorrow I wake with second wind
and strong because of pride
2 know I fought with all my heart 2 keep my dream alive
