As a result of the coronavirus crisis, an unlikely collaboration between Naughty By Nature and Rita Wilson has taken place.
Last month, 63-year-old Rita took to Instagram where she rapped along to Naughty By Nature’s Hip Hop Hooray. On March 12, Rita along with her husband, Tom Hanks, announced that they had contracted coronavirus while in Australia.
Vin Rock from Naughty By Nature backed Rita’s performance, showing his appreciation in an online post. After the video went viral, the actress and legendary Hip Hop group joined forces to release a remix.
All proceeds from the release will go to the MusiCares® COVID-19 Relief Fund.
In a statement, Naughty By Nature further displayed their gratitude towards both Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. The statement read, “We are honored to have Rita Wilson recite our song, we were totally shocked she could rap the verses so well. We are honored to be part of the remix of our classic song to raise awareness and help fight the coronavirus. Thanks again to Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks for embracing us, and for helping us take the unexpected viral moment further for such a great cause.”
Comparing ‘Hip Hop Hooray’ to a modern-day Shakespeare, Rita said she learned it for her role in Boy Genius. Due to the complexity of the song, it took her about a month to learn from start to finish. Wanting to give her brain exercise while in quarantine, Rita decided to see if she still remembered it. Not only did she remember the classic Naughty By Nature song, but Rita also received worldwide applause. The remix is available to view via Tommy Boy YouTube, with the added option to donate to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
