During an Instagram Live session with filmmaker Mark Birnbaum, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx announced that the Mike Tyson biopic is officially underway.
Jamie Foxx is no stranger to biopic’s, as his performance for “Ray” earned him an Oscar for Best Actor in 2005. Now Foxx has the task of bringing Mike Tyson’s life to the big screen, with the goal of showing how Tyson like many of us evolve with time.
“It’s a definitive yes,” Foxx said. “Doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get them done, but we officially got the real ball rolling.”
Aside from acting out the role, Jamie Foxx has also been preparing physically. A work out routine that consist of 60 pulls-ups, 60 dips and 100 push-ups every single day. Technology will also play a huge role in the finishing product. According to Jamie Foxx you won’t be able to tell the difference between himself and the real Mike Tyson.
“I guarantee you, people will run up on me in the street and ask for an autograph and think that I’m Mike,”Foxx said.
With the IG Live session, Foxx also shared the story on how he first met the legendary boxer, when he was only 22 years-old doing stand up comedy. “I met Mike Tyson in the weirdest way, I was on stage doing stand-up years ago,” Foxx recalled.”I get to my Mike Tyson joke and nobody claps, nobody laughs. You know why? Because Mike Tyson was watching.”
During the awkward silence, the crowd encouraged him to continue. One audience member shouted, “Yo, Mike said do the joke, but that s–t better be funny.”
“So I started hanging out with Mike Tyson so I got to see Mike in two different ways, two different lives,” the “Blame It” singer explained. “I saw him at the height of his career and then when things got bad, things got bumpy, I also saw him as well, so what I’m excited about the movie is to show those moments of the different Mike.”
