Megan Thee Stallion once again shows love for the pioneers that went before her as she samples Tupac’s ‘Ratha Be Ya N____‘.
Texas-born rapper, Megan Jovon Ruth, better known as Megan Thee Stallion, gave fans a snippet of her upcoming music. The twenty-four-year-old had a successful 2019, with the release of her debut mixtape, Fever. After that release and a few collaborations with Ty Dollar Sign and Nicki Minaj, she signed with Roc Nation. To finish 2019 off, Megan appeared on the ‘Queen And Slim’ soundtrack, with a track titled ‘Ride Or Die’.
Despite her workload, Megan Thee Stallion took to Instagram where she posted a video showing her rapping beside a pool. The beat samples Tupac Shakur’s song, ‘Ratha Be Ya N____‘, from his 1996 album, All Eyez on Me.
Tupac recorded ‘Ratha Be Ya N____‘, on October 28, 1995, a few weeks after his release from prison. It features Richie Rich who many years later revealed the concept behind the song. Speaking in XXL Special Collectors Issue, Richie said, “Everybody was in this one big studio. Tupac comes at me like, ‘I want us to do a song about bi**** when you want to be down for them, but not be there. He finished his first verse in six minutes.”
This isn’t the first time that she rapped to a Tupac beat. Appearing on Sway In The Morning early last year, Megan freestyled over Tupac and the Outlawz ‘Hit ‘Em Up’.
In the video showing her sampling ‘Ratha Be Ya N.I.G.G.A.’, you see a few of her friends in the background twerking while Megan flows over the beat with precision. Proving she’s got bars, Megan spits ferociously, “You want me to blow ya phone up and come lookin’ for ya til I find ya? You really want me to whoop the hoe that you f* with if I find her?” In the caption to the video, Megan promotes her new music video with Normani, Diamonds, which dropped last Friday.
