Hip Hop’s on the rise brightest female star, Megan Thee Stallion, sat down with Genius as she discussed her love and admiration for Tupac Shakur.
After receiving the green light from a judge in early March of 2020, Megan was able to release her new project titled “Suga”. Consisting of nine songs, with one of those songs sampling Tupac’s ‘Ratha Be Ya N____‘.
The song “B.I.T.C.H” would go to be released as a single, followed by the music video directed by Lauren Dunn.
When speaking to Genius, Megan Thee Stallion goes into details on how her admiration for Tupac led to her single “B.I.T.C.H”.
“What inspired the song is that I super love Tupac. N.I.G.G.A is like on my playlist. So, I’m just listening to it and I’m like hell nah this song is good if a girl really flipped it.”
Megan also finds similarities between herself and Tupac Shakur.”I really like the way, Tupac speaks. His cadence, his flow, he’s just very dominate. He just give big top energy. And, I just feel like I do the same. When he talking, he really just be talking that s***. that I like. So, I feel when my audience be listening to me, that’s how they feel,” Megan tells Genius.
“Why you wanna play with me? You know I’m undefeated / A real hot girl know how to keep a nigga heated / You say you want respect, well, treat me how you wanna be treated / You told me keep it real, but you don’t practice what you preachin’,” Megan on her new single ‘B.I.T.C.H.’.
Tupac recorded ‘Ratha Be Ya N____’, on October 28, 1995, a few weeks after his release from prison. The song featured Oakland rapper Richie Rich who many years later revealed the concept behind the song.
Speaking in XXL Special Collectors Issue, Richie said, “Everybody was in this one big studio. Tupac comes at me like, ‘I want us to do a song about bi**** when you want to be down for them, but not be there. He finished his first verse in six minutes.”
