Lil Wayne’s new sentence date could help the rapper as he faces 10 years behind bars for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Back in December of 2019, federal agents were tipped about a firearm on a plane in which the rapper was on at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. Unfortunately for Wayne a .45-caliber handgun was found in his bag, along with Cocaine and ecstasy.
Wayne’s lawyer Howard Srebnick requested for more time to prepare for the case, which U.S. District Judge Williams granted. Originally the rapper was prepared to be sentenced on January 28th, but now Lil Wayne’s new sentence date is March 3rd of 2021.
Pleading guilty for the firearm and cooperating could help Lil Wayne to receive a lenient sentence, reported TMZ. Wayne’s lawyer at one point was thinking of filing a motion to suppress the search of the plane as a violation of the rapper’s constitutional rights. Wayne on the other hand told his lawyer that he would go on and plea guilty.
Aside from legal fees, Wayne has spent $250,000 in bail and had to surrender his passport.
