Kanye West who interviewed recently with Big Boy, gave praise to Tupac Shakur when speaking about his Yeezy line. This is quite the contradiction, considering Kanye once said Tupac was overrated. Fast forward to now and he compares Tupac’s greatness to one of Michael Jackson.
When speaking about the success of his Yeezy 350 sneaker line with Adidas, Kanye would compare his success, with that of Tupac Shakur.
Kanye would go on to say, “Remember when I was telling people in interviews, I am the Tupac of fashion. I might not be the biggest musician, cause you got Michael Jackson, you got Tupac, you know what I’m saying. But, with apparel, I knew it. And, we just at the beginning. This is the number one google brand on the earth.”
Kanye’s Love For Sneakers
During the interview Kanye claims, the Yeezy 350 is selling four million a year. But, before the Yeezy’s, Kanye had his first chance to exhibit his love for sneakers back in 2007. West would go on to create a shoe for the Japanese apparel company A Bathing Ape. The Kanye West x Bape “Dropout Bear” Bapesta Sneakers was designed by Kanye and Nigo, the founder of BAPE.
Getting praised and encouragement from Hedi Slimane, who served as a creator director at Dior Homme and Yves Saint Slimane. Kanye recalls Hedi telling him, “You’re going to do something really strong in shoes.” Kanye would continue his passion and would work with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and of course Adidas.
His partnership with Adidas, allowed Kanye to debut his Yeezy sneaker line in 2015. Kanye would help turn running shoes into something cool, and worth paying $200 for many. “There’s a little bit of Lamborghini in everything I do,” West says. “Yeezy is the Lamborghini of shoes.”
Kanye says Tupac is Overrated
Back in 2014, Kanye West allegedly stated that Tupac was the most overrated rapper in history. According to reports at the time, Kanye was at a showing for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie at the Hollywood Theatre. Hosted by Megan Fox and Will Arnett, the showing featured various musicians and film stars.

When an undisclosed person compared Kanye West’s album ‘Yeezus’ to Tupac’s ‘Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z’ album, Kanye wasn’t pleased. West would end up saying, “How you gonna go compare my music to 2Pac?” he said, “2Pac wasn’t no musician. He was an actor. What was he in? Juice? Above the Rim? He was the most overrated rapper in history and you come up in here comparing him to me? A real rapper…a real star.”
