Actor and singer Jussie Smollett survived an horrific racial and homophobic attack in Chicago in late January, which has put all eyes on him.
Jussie, who plays Jamal Lyon in the TV series Empire, says the attack has left him feeling like legendary rapper Tupac Shakur after the robbery at Quad Studios, November 1994.
On January 29th, after leaving a restaurant in Chicago, two men in ski masks ambushed Jussie. The attackers punched and kicked him, then poured an unknown liquid over him. They also put a noose around his neck.
Smollett performed for the first time since the racially-charged attack at a concert in Los Angeles on Saturday February 2nd. During an interlude, he gave an heartfelt speech and cleared a few things up in regards to his attack.
“I was bruised but my ribs were not cracked. They were not broken. I went to the doctor immediately,” he said. “I was not hospitalized. Both my doctors in L.A. and Chicago cleared me to perform but said to take care, obviously and, above all, I fought the f–k back. I’m the gay Tupac.”
