Hip Hop artist Gucci Mane recently took to Twitter, as he is contemplating whether to sign with a major label or be independent after his contract expires with Atlantic Records.
On Wednesday morning (June 24), the Atlanta native artist took to his official Twitter account asking his fans for advice. “Should I go independent?,” Gucci Mane tweeted. Currently Gucci Mane has been signed to Atlantic Records for thirteen years, and is prepared to leave the label on July 3rd.
Last week on June 16, Gucci again via his Twitter account (@gucci1017), announced he will be leaving the label after his contract is finished. “Leaving #AtlanticRecords July 3rd these crackers polite racist #SolcySummer.” The Tweet has been deleted, bu the message is clear.
Now Gucci Mane is contemplating where he will end up after Atlantic Records. The veteran artist has called home to many labels over his career. Warner Bros., Tommy Boy, Big Cat, and RBC to name a few.
In a follow-up Tweet Gucci Mane gives another reason why he is leaving Atlantic Records and leaning towards going independent. “They been want to censor me!”
Gucci could very well go independent and join his label 1017 which is distributed through Alamo/EMPIRE. Currently Hoodrich Pablo Juan and Lil Wop are signed to the label.
