Mr. Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, took to his official Instagram account Thursday (September 10) announcing a Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reunion airing on HBO Max.
The announcement came on the 30-year anniversary of when the Fresh Prince sitcom debuted. Teaser for the reunion occurred first in late August of 2020, but now it has become a reality with its top star and HBO Max making the official announcement. “6 seasons, 148 episodes, countless memories. Happy 30th anniversary to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! #FreshPrince30th,” HBO Max wrote in the caption. as they highlighted hilarious moments from the sitcom in a 59-second clip.
Will Smith shared a photo of the cast as they appear now in 2020 in the infamous living room from the Bel-Air mansion, including aunt Viv — well the second aunt Viv. Back in 1993 after season number 3 the original aunt Viv, Janet Hubert, was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid. Apparently Hubert became pregnant in real life which was a violation of her contract with resulted in her termination from the sitcom.
But have no fear, it appears Hubert, the original aunt Viv will not be left off the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reunion. Along with the current family photo, Will Smith also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of himself and Hubert.
Sadly, Uncle Phil, James Avery, passed away in 2014 from complication from open-heart surgery. Earlier this year via Will’s Snapchat show ‘Will From Home’, the Fresh Prince cast paid an emotional tribute to Uncle Phil.
Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Reunion on HBO Max will premiere on around Thanksgiving of 2020 and is being produced by Westbrook Media. The special will also feature special guests.
“Today is exactly 30 YEARS since The @FreshPrince of Bel-Air debuted! So we’re doin’ something for y’all… a for real Banks Family Reunion is comin’ soon to @HBOmax! RIP James. #FreshPrince30th,” Smith said in his caption via IG.
