Allen Hughes and his brother, Albert Hughes, have reunited after eleven years to take on the series. But, it is another reunion that has been rumored for the series. It appears that Dr. Dre has teamed up with long time friend Allen Hughes.

Allen Hughes and Dr. Dre have known each other for twenty-five years. Many tend to forget that is was Allen Hughes who directed the music video “I Need A Doctor” for Dr. Dre, which featured Eminem and Skylar Grey.

Allen Hughes would turn the music video into a career retrospective video with Dre’s life. Six years later and Allen Hughes would pitch the idea to HBO of a Dr. Dre docuseries. Eventually titled “The Defiant Ones“, also included the life of Jimmy Iovine, someone else who Allen Hughes has know well before Dre and Jimmy even knew each other.

Just as the Hughes Brothers, Dr. Dre also has history with Tupac Shakur. Dating back to the Death Row records days, where the two gave California their Anthem with “California Love“.

The dream paring between the two never reached it’s full potential, as Dr. Dre would leave Death Row records, and his relationship with Tupac would also come to an end.

Years later Dr. Dre would be responsible for the Tupac hologram which debuted at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2012. The hologram appeared on stage performing “Hail Mary“, as well as “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” with Snoop Dogg.

If rumored to be true, this wouldn’t be the first time Dr. Dre and Allen Hughes team up on a Tupac related project. Back in 2017, the two featured Tupac in the “The Defiant Ones” HBO series.

Many praised Allen Hughes for the work he did with Tupac’s part on episode three of the series. Which gives die hard Tupac fans the confidence in the new FX series “Outlaw: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur“, even though Tupac and the Hughes Brothers also had their ups and downs. In a tweet by Allen Hughes on Twitter, he would go on to post a photo of himself, Dr. Dre, and his brother Albert Hughes. Allen would also write, “Dr. Dre & The Hughes Brothers… Thinking of a master plan for 2020 & beyond!” Using the hashtag #Outlaw.

No word yet what role Dr. Dre will play in the series, but one can assume it will be musically related, and perhaps sharing his stories as it relates to Tupac Shakur.
