The official class of 2020 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was announced Wednesday January 15. This year’s class will feature the likes of Whitney Houston, Biggie Smalls, Nine Inch Nails to name a few.
Presented by Klipsch Audio, the 35th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will take place at Public Auditorium in Cleveland. BRodacasting live for the first time on HBO at 8pm on May 2nd.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Trent Raznor leader of Nine Inch Nails can describe the feeling as “shock”. Trent says, “I’m actually quite surprised. When I look back at how Nine Inch Nails are received, it always seems like we fall between the cracks or we’re not in this category or “that thing.” I don’t know if it’s a defense mechanism, but I just assumed we’d stay in that category, so I’m pleasantly surprised to see us acknowledged. It feels pretty good.”
It would take three attempts to final be chosen for the hall. Trent no longer has to be reminded every year of perhaps not being good enough to be inducted. “I’m kind of relieved because I figured that every year for the rest of my life, I’d have a new disappointment reminding me, “You’re not good enough.”
Also making the class of 2020 is another iconic singer in Whitney Houston. Appearing on the ballot for the first time, Houston released seven albums and gave us the hit ‘I Will Always Love You’.
Many are wondering who will induct the iconic singer, with a list of Brandy, Janet Jackson, and even Kevin Costner all have a valid argument.
The next nominee might not have any issues finding an inductee. The Notorious B.I.G. also know as Biggie Smalls also made the class on his first crack at the hall.
Biggie was gunned down in 1997. With only one album released before his passing, there is no denying Biggie’s impact in the music industry.
Puff Daddy who took to Instagram to voice his excitement of his friend’s nomination into the hall, could very well be the one to induct Biggie into the hall of fame.
The complete performers inductees list for the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is:
- Depeche Mode
- The Doobie Brothers
- Whitney Houston
- Nine Inch Nails
- The Notorious B.I.G.
- T. Rex
