Cardi B’s current run continues, as the Bronx native graces the cover of Elle magazine for September 2020. The lifestyle magazine which focuses on fashion, beauty, health, and entertainment featured the WAP artist for the very first time.
An ecstatic Cardi B shared her Elle cover Tuesday morning (August 11). Captioning the cover via Instagram, Cardi wrote, “My first Elle magazine cover! The fact that they love my labret piercing makes it my fav! Thank you @ninagarcia@elleusa.”
The September issue will focus on Cardi B’s new music, her husband Offset, and social issues such as the death of Breonna Taylor. “I remember everybody waking up at 3 a.m. and driving all the way to New Jersey, to the hospital. And through all that driving, you’re crying and scared.” She’s enraged that the officers who murdered Taylor—Jon Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove—have not been arrested. “That is so insane to me,” she says. “What they did to her is really fucked up. What’s the excuse? Why is the cop not in jail? Wasn’t what he did a crime? It’s a crime! And no apology. Nothing. Unbelievable.”
Cardi B recently released her new single WAP featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Along with the single is the music video directed by Colin Tiley. The WAP music video features various outfits worn by Cardi and Megan Thee Stallion, as well as Tigers, Snakes and Kylie Jenner. Former friend of Megan Thee Stallion, Kylie makes a special cameo appearance. An appearance that received much backlash from fans and was backed up by Cardi.
Explaining herself on Twitter, Cardi tweeted, “Why did i put Kylie on my music video? She treated my sister and daughter so lovely at her kid bday party,” Cardi wrote. “Travis and Set are real close and Kris Jenner have giving me advice on certain things I ask for and her husband real close with mine.”
