The New York Hip Hop pioneer gave his reaction to Kobe Bryant’s untimely death. Kobe died in a helicopter crash alongside his daughter and seven others on January 26, in Calabasas, California.
The legendary rapper went on to say, “I was just on Instagram and I saw a post that said ‘no, not Kobe’. So I just googled it and I saw what happened and I was really in a state of shock. You know, I was really in a state of shock. Like wow, this is unreal.”
A little later, Big Daddy Kane found out that Kobe Bryant‘s daughter, Gianna, also died in the helicopter crash. As a father himself, this cut deep and made him think of his son. “You know that’s when it was like you know umm I put up a rest in peace post, logged off of Instagram, went and grabbed my seven-year-old, and I just hugged him for about 10 minutes, straight man,” he said.
The interviewer certainly recognized Kobe’s greatness, asking Big Daddy Kane who he thought was the Kobe Bryant of Hip Hop.
Pausing for a brief moment, Kane thought of the generation after Jay Z, to respond with Detroit rapper, Eminem. It’s not the first time that Big Daddy Kane has spoke highly of Eminem. In 2015, the Brooklyn rapper spoke with VladTv on which he called Eminem a ‘lyrical genius’.
Last week, Eminem shocked everyone at the 92nd Academy Awards in L.A. giving a surprise performance of Lose Yourself.
