After Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19 forcing the battle with Keyshia Cole to be postpone, a new date is scheduled for the new year.
When news broke that Ashanti tested positive, the singer was still eager to continue the epic showdown from home. “Hey ya’ll I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19,” Ashanti announced on IG. “I’m ok and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the Verzuz from my house… we’re trying to figure it all out!!!”
Many fans had their fingers crossed, but were also concered for the singer’s health. And, so were co-founders Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. So for this reason, unfortunately the two artists and the millions that were projected to tune in have to wait until January 9, 2021.
“Unfortunately, we have to postpone tonight’s @Ashanti vs @KeyshiaCole#VERZUZ. Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19 beforehand, and we cannot put anyone at risk in the process. First time this has struck us so close to showtime. We apologize to our incredible audience! Get well soon, Ashanti 💜🖤💚 Wear a mask, stay inside, and take COVID-19 seriously,” read the caption via the official Verzuz IG account.
The battle between the popular artists was highly anticipated. Even Hip Hop artist Cardi B weighed in on the anticipation and warned her husband Offset. “Warning to all you mans out there (including mine) be nice the day of the Ashanti VS Keyshia Verzuz battle. Its going to be a lot of singing with this face (frown emoji) on you,” she tweeted.
This is the first time Verzuz was cancelled because of COVID-19 and on such short notice. Watch below as Ashanti and Cole speak on the postponed battle.
